To All 2001 Driver’s School /
Time Trials Participants:
Attached, you will find the results of this year’s
event. Many thanks to Mother Nature for
the weather, to the Almighty for the safety of the event, and to all who
participated this year. Special thanks
go to Rick Pocock, Chief Instructor and prime mover of the beautifully planned
schedule, to our instructors, to our corner workers, and all who planned and
helped execute the event, especially Deno Gualtieri, Eric Porter, Skip Persson,
and David Yager.
I would like to note for the record that Skip Persson
solicited the very nice prizes that were awarded from our sponsors: Joe Minocci at Continental
Motors, Autoweek Magazine, Hemmings Motor News, Racer Wholesale, and Sports Car
Market Magazine. Please patronize our
sponsors whenever possible.
Finally, I would like to compliment all of you who come
year after year to make this event possible: I hear from everybody including
the instructors, participants from other clubs, even the corner workers, about
how pleasant the Alfa event is, and I think that is because Alfa people are
special. Perhaps it is because our cars
have passion and soul, but their quirkiness and failings keep us humble. Perhaps it is because we like to share in
each other’s suffering with these addictive machines. All I know is that after more than 20 years
in the Alfa Romeo Owners Club, I have yet to meet a better group of people. It was a special treat to see Eric Porter
re-surface more than 9 years after the “Alfetta Meets Bambi” incident on West
Bend, and a pleasure to get back together with Tarik Shapli, who finally got a
visa to visit from Pennsylvania.
I hope you all have a great summer, and I look forward to
seeing you at our event next year.
